Cool Room Tips: How to Save Energy

Posted on

If you are renting a cool room, you may be looking for ways to reduce the energy bills you have to pay. While you cannot skimp on the amount of power you use to keep the space cool, you can think about other ways of saving power. Here are three ways you can reduce the amount of energy you use in your cool room.

Use more natural lighting

Cool rooms are often fitted with several sets of light bulbs which are used to illuminate every corner of the space. While it is important that you have adequate light within a cool room, this light doesn't have to come from an artificial source. You should consider hiring or buying a cool room which has built in windows, which will allow natural light to enter. Because natural light is free, it will reduce the amount of electricity you use powering the light bulbs.

Use energy saving bulbs

Of course, if you use your cool room during the evenings, you will not always be able to rely on natural light to illuminate the space, so you will still need to install some light bulbs. However, if you are using the old-style incandescent light bulbs, you may be using much more power than you need to light your cool room. By investing in modern LED lighting, you can drastically cut the amount of energy you use and your electricity bill.

LED lighting uses smaller bulbs which do not require as much energy as a traditional incandescent bulb. LED lighting also produces much less heat when compared to incandescent bulbs, which means it will be easier to keep your cool room cold. Although LED bulbs have a bigger upfront cost, this will be easily covered by the money you save on your energy bill.

Install an intelligent lighting system

Many people who rent or own a cool room leave the lighting on 24 hours a day, even when the unit is not in use. This is incredibly wasteful and results in electricity bills which are much higher than they need to be. By installing intelligent lighting, you can solve this problem. Intelligent lighting will automatically switch on the lighting when the sensors detect that a person is in a room. When a person leaves the space, the lights will automatically turn themselves off.
